A Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police officer and his wife are being recognized for the vital contributions they are making in their personal lives.
Dave and Mallory Holmes are the recipients of the King Charles III Coronation Medal for their fundraising through their annual Charlee’s Run event.
Created after the loss of their young daughter Charlee, Dave Holmes says the run was created while they were living in Orillia in 2016 to be an outlet for families that have experienced pregnancy and infant loss and show them they are not alone.
The event has raised over $745,000 for pediatric and neonatal services at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, and has also raised funds for the family birthing unit at Winchester District Memorial Hospital.
Dave tells Moose FM that they are honored to receive the award and adds that it’s for everyone who has helped make it a reality.
“Charlee’s Run wouldn’t be what it is without the support from all of the communities that have supported us right from the beginning, so it’s a medal for everybody who has participated and supported the event in some way.”
The Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of King Charles III as King of Canada and recipients must have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community or abroad that brings credit to Canada.
