As the calendar turns to February, a family-friendly event at two locations on Saturday is celebrating its fourth anniversary.
Kemptville Winter Carnival founder Herb Cloutier said there is a full itinerary of activities for all ages.
“The weather is going to be perfect…we are going to get some snow tonight, so there will be fluffy snow. We are going to have a real, old fashioned winter flavour with the weather.”
Cloutier said when he petitioned the municipality and received a grant, he wanted a winter-themed festival that revolves around the natural ice surface at Curry Park.
Cloutier said there is more than 600 feet of ice cleared off for skaters. Events run there from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and include outdoor shinny and a curling club demonstration.
There are also food options and free hot chocolate.
Moose FM will be live on location pumping out the music.
This year, Cloutier has included a second location, at Ferguson Forest, with events that include horse-drawn wagon rides, tobogganing and a kids zone.
“We’re going to try and keep people busy all day.”
Temperatures look promising for a weather-dependent event, a big improvement from last year, when temperatures soared about freezing in late January.
Cloutier is confident the community will enjoy the occasion.
“I think it’s going to be the best winter carnival in terms of attendance I think we have ever had.”
All events are free. Go to kemptvillewintercarnival.ca for more information.
