After a scary incident on the highway the OPP is reminding the public that moving over for stopped emergency vehicles is the law.
According to Leeds OPP just before 1:00am on December 14th their officers were assisting a disabled transport truck that was not completely on the shoulder. Emergency lights and flares were both being used when a westbound vehicle failed to move into the far lane and narrowly missed both the officer and transport driver.
A second officer was notified of the incident, stopped the car further up the highway and charged them with failing to move over for emergency vehicle or tow truck.
Detachment Commander Inspector Mike Francis says the violation carries a fine of $400-$2,000 and three demerit points, adding that a repeat offence can actually result in jail time.
