Ontario Job Growth

The Government of Ontario has announced over 25 thousand jobs were created in the province last month.

Representatives for the Ontario Government say 25,500 jobs were created in July. 17,600 of those jobs are full-time positions and 7,900 are part-time. These jobs came as a result of gains in the information, culture and recreation, wholesale and retail trade and business, building and other support service sectors. The province’s unemployment rate is entering its 29th straight month below the national average.

According to the Ontario Government the province’s Real GDP grew one per cent during the first quarter of 2017. This means the provincial GDP outperformed the GDP for Canada, the United States and all other G7 countries. Increased business investment and consumer spending are the primary forces driving the GDP increase. Business investment across the province was up 5.5 percent, with residential construction rising almost eight per cent.

In 2017 the Government of Ontario predicts job growth of 1.3 per cent, or 94,000 new jobs.
