Thoughtful hockey player’s flowing locks make a big impact

A hockey player’s flowing locks are set to benefit a couple of great causes.

Beneshi, a Kemptville Royals hockey player, decided to raise money for the Kemptville District Hospital Foundation’s CT Scanner campaign.

The 9-year-old has raised more than $2,000 so far and it all goes towards the campaign for the a vital tool in the hospital’s healthcare toolbox.

When he sits down for a haircut on Saturday at the North Grenville Municipal Centre, the hair will be collected and used for a cancer patient’s wig.

It’s a win-win for all involved, says Lynne Clifford-Ward, the foundation’s communications specialist.

“Frankly, I think the initiative has captured many hearts in the area,” Clifford-Ward told MyKemptvilleNow.

Clifford-Ward said the CT scanner will be the hospital’s first and cut down on significant commute times for Kemptville and area residents.

Plenty of thoughtful fundraising ideas have come about during the campaign, Clifford-Ward said, including an old timers hockey team donating their leftover funds after they folded, and a $600 donation from a girl’s lemonade stand.

“All of these initiatives from our community have been just incredible, and then to have this young man step up like this…just wonderful.”
