Drivers reminded to follow the rules of the road ahead of long weekend

Police are reminding you to put safety first with a busy Canada Day long weekend on the horizon.

Grenville County OPP Constable Dave Holmes says, if you’re heading out onto the roads and highways, you must make sure that there are enough seatbelts for everyone in your vehicle.

He says drivers should also leave enough time to get to where they are heading and anticipate that there will be delays with lots of traffic expected.

Holmes says you also have to remember the rules around distracted driving.

“If they use GPS on their phone, just remembering that they can’t be using their phone while they are driving and if they can affix it somewhere in their vehicle that’s easy for them to see that doesn’t require them to manipulate it.”

Holmes adds that no amount of alcohol or drugs is a safe amount when you’re behind the wheel.
