Sunny skies, clear weather anticipated for Canada Day

What kind of weather can we expect to help Canada ring in its 157th birthday?

While it’s still a little too early to tell, Environment Canada Senior Climatologist David Phillips says active weather is expected to move through our region on Friday and Saturday.

That will bring rain with it and cooler temperatures with daytime highs anticipated to be around 22 degrees.

However, Phillips says there’s good news as he expects the rain to move along and make for Canada Day on Monday with sunny and clear skies most of the day.

Phillips says the weather this year will be much better than what we saw on the holiday last year.

“You were smelling smoke from fires Quebec and northeastern Ontario, that’s not the issue this year, we also had highs last year of up around 28 or 29 degrees.”

As for the rest of the summer, Phillips adds he still anticipates it will be warmer than normal overall.
