The Ottawa BlackJacks are bringing in some homegrown talent.
On Tuesday, the team announced the signing of Toronto native, Kyle Johnson.
Johnson is a six-foot-five guard, who has ten years of professional experience, having played in Canada, as well as abroad in France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, and most recently, Iceland.
He says he’s excited to be back home, and to play in front of family and friends.
“I’ll try and bring leadership and try to lead by example,” Johnson said. “I want to be a person who’s looked at as a winner and someone who just competes hard every single practice, and every single game.”
In 250 career games, Johnson has averaged 11.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
He also holds both Canadian and UK citizenship, and represented the UK back at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Johnson says fans can expect him to give a hundred percent every night.
“I am going to compete on both ends of the floor, I will be very vocal out there, and just try to come in and work towards winning,” Johnson said. “That’s going to be the goal.”
Ottawa will open the 2021 campaign with a three-game homestand that begins on June 24 against the Niagara River Lions.
That will be followed by a date with the Guelph Nighthawks on June 28, and concludes with a special Canada Day matinee against the Hamilton Honey Badgers.
