Health Unit is Asking for Patience With Local Vaccine Distribution Plan

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is letting residents know about the status of local COVID-19 vaccines.

Last week, the health unit continued stage 1 of its Vaccine Distribution and Administration Roll Out Plan.

The shortage of the Pfizer vaccine has caused the Ministry of Health to redirect doses of the Moderna from parts of the province to other locations, including Leeds, Grenville and Lanark.

Health Units have been instructed to only vaccinate residents in Long-Term Care Homes and High Risk Retirement Homes – while staff and designated caregivers have been put on hold until the vaccine supply picks up.

The health unit says 691 people received their vaccine between January 25-31, increasing the overall total to 1,717.

This week, the health unit will not be able to do any mobile clinics, however, it will continue to work with local hospitals, EMS, medical first responders and assessment centre staff to prepare them for Stage 2 of the roll out plan.

Looking ahead to next week, the health unit says it will continue to implement mobile clinics on-site at local Long-Term Care Homes and High Risk Retirement homes.

You’re encouraged to continue following COVID health measures, including wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance and following the stay-at-home order.

The health unit asks residents to remain patient for the vaccine to be distributed and adds that they will provide updates as they become available.
