The Holiday Train is making its closest stop on Monday.
The annual fundraiser and concert will be stopping in Merrickville at 4:45pm. Colin James, Jonathon Roy and Emma-Lee will all be performing before the train starts off for its next destination. The concert is free to attend but the public is reminded this is a fundraiser for local foodbanks. Joanne Harris, Community Health Worker with Rideau Community Health Services says donations of healthy, non-perishable foods and money will be accepted at the event.
Bonnie Pidgeon-Cougler, representative with the South Grenville Food Bank, says the donations are all intended for the Merrickville Emergency Food Cupboard but there are often so many they get spread to food banks throughout the region. Harris points out that during the 19 years the Holiday Train has been running CP has raised over $13 million and 4 million pounds worth of food.
This is the train’s sixth stop in Merrickville. A detailed list of where the train will be stopping, and who will be performing, can be found here.
