CO Awareness Week

Fire prevention officials are using CO Awareness Week to show the public some of the advances in smoke and CO detector technology.

Chief Fire Prevention Officer with Brent Norton says the model they recommend is actually a hybrid smoke and CO detector. They are made by a number of different manufactures but Norton suggests picking a model that is battery operated. Many new CO alarms are battery operated and this allows them to be placed in hallways outside of sleeping areas.

Norton also says that if they find your home without a working smoke detector they won’t leave you that way. They carry loaner units with them on calls and will install one so they know residents are protected while the homeowner purchases a new unit. They return within the next 24-48 hours to collect their detector.
