The OPP will be running Operation Impact over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
The operation is intended to reduce the number of preventable, vehicle related fatalities and is being put on in partnership with police services across Canada. The OPP will be conducting enforcement and raising awareness about driving behaviours that are most likely to cause fatalities on the road.
The OPP’s Big Four casual factors for road deaths are inattentive driving, speeding, impaired driving and not using a seatbelt. According to the OPP this year there have been 63 deaths caused by inattentive drivers, 56 due to drivers speeding, 32 because of an impaired driver and 31 as a result of travellers not wearing a seatbelt.
