Some big names are set to hit the ice during this year’s Community and Primary Health Care (CPHC) Charity Hockey Challenge.
The event will see NHL and OHL alumni take to the ice with local dignitaries for a fun game, with all the proceeds going to the CPHC. The 2nd overall pick in the 1981 NHL entry draft Doug Smith will play in the game along with 1970 Stanley Cup champion Rick Smith, former CHL player of the year and 10 season NHL veteran Alan McCauley and ex-Tampa Bay Lightning Shawn Rivers. Some of the OHL alumni included in the game are Brett Gibson, Kevin Grimes and Graham Brown.
Local dignitaries and members of parliament taking part in the game include Minster of Justice Attorney General Attorney General of Canada the Honorable Peter McKay, Head of the Provincial Conservative Party and MPP for Simcoe North Patrick Brown, Leeds & Grenville MPP Steve Clark, Leeds Grenville Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP Gord Brown and Brockville Mayor David Henderson. Steve Clark, Gord Brown and David Henderson are also co-chairing the event and, according to representatives with the CPHC, are still finalizing the roster with more NHL Alumni, local dignitaries and members of parliament to still be named.
Puck drop will be 7:00pm on October 19th at the Brockville Memorial Centre. The night starts with player introductions, followed by the Thousand Islanders Chorus signing two songs. The game itself is two twenty minute periods with a twenty minute intermission. During the intermission there will be a novice kid’s game and short speeches. There will also be a raffle held during the event, with the prize being two economy class return tickets to any Air Canada destination of your choice. Tickets for the raffle are $10 and can be purchased at the game, at local businesses or by calling the CPHC.
