With the long weekend so close the Canada Border Services Agency is reminding travellers that planning ahead can save time during border crossings.
The CBSA is expecting increased traffic volume at ports of entry in Eastern and Northern Ontario during the Labour Day Holiday long weekend. One suggestion the CBSA makes is crossing at non-peak times. No matter what you have planned it is best to cross in the mornings, especially on Sunday or Monday, because the line ups at borders usually start lengthening in the afternoon.
Some other suggested tips from the CBSA include; check border wait times using the CanBorder App and cross at the least busy port of entry, know what your personal exemptions and restrictions are, have travel documents and receipts in hand when you reach the border, declare all purchases, know the contents of your vehicle, private boaters should pre-register their travel information and when in doubt ask a CBSA officer.
Travellers planning to use the Lansdowne, aka Thousand Islands, port of entry should be aware that there is construction taking place on the facility. A reduction in processing lanes could lead to delays for anyone crossing at this port. The CBSA suggest using the Prescott point of entry during peak times.
